SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 27, 2000 -- Warner Bros.' "The Whole Nine Yards" easily held on to first place despite tracking studies that had projected Dimension Films' opening of "Reindeer Games" would be the weekend's big winner.
"Reindeer Games " Although the tracking data had pointed to an opening of $10 million to $12 million for "Reindeer," no film managed to crack double digits last weekend. "Reindeer" wound up an embarrassed No. 3 for the weekend with a red face and nose. The weekend's only other wide opening, Paramount's "Wonder Boys," lived up to tracking expectations, finishing out of the Top Five, in seventh place, with a grim estimated $5.85 million.
The best-performing film of the bunch continued to be "Yards," Morgan Creek and Franchise Pictures' R-rated comedy. "Yards" continued laughing atop the chart in its second weekend with an estimated $9.61 million

After a season of teenage angst and longing, tonight’s season finale of “Dawson’s Creek” (8 p.m. EDT/PDT, WB) features the first passionate homosexual kiss between two men to ever take place on primetime television. In the episode, titled “True Love,” Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith), who came out last season after briefly dating Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), shares an onscreen kiss with friend-turned-boyfriend Ethan (Adam Kauffman).

The "Titanic" superstar has temporarily dropped out of his next project, DreamWorks' "Catch Me If You Can," The Hollywood Reporter says. The studio has yet to decide on whether to recast the role or to wait for a possible change of mind from the actor.
The project, which co-stars "The Sopranos'" James Gandolfini, is based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., a scam artist/impersonator who successfully committed frauds in 26 foreign countries.
DiCaprio is currently shooting Martin Scorsese's big gangster flick "Gangs of New York," which is running two weeks over schedule.

HOLLYWOOD, May 23, 2000 -- Looks like another "Saturday Night Live" reunion is in the making. Today's Daily Variety says Will Ferrell, aka the "SNL" guy from those laff-riot comedies "A Night at the Roxbury" and "Superstar," is slated to join Mike Myers in "Dieter," a big-screen project inspired by Myers old skit "Sprockets."
The story will follow Myers' suggestively kinky German talk-show host Dieter as his beloved pet monkey gets kidnapped. Ferrell will play his American cousin who is enlisted to find the missing monkey.
GIRL TROUBLE: "Dawson’s Creek’s" Katie Holmes will join Tom Sizemore, Tim Allen and Rene Russo in "Big Trouble," a Disney comedy about a group of people whose lives are interrupted by a nuclear scare. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holmes will play Russo’s daughter.
